Learning Objects can be transferred pretty much readily between mainstream LMS / VLE providers via ADL SCORM and IMS Content Packaging standards, but there is no equivalent for whole courses. As LMS vendor offerings mature and organisations are more ready to move LMS providers a means for course interoperability is required – enter IMS Common Cartridge.

Learning objects are the core concept in an approach to learning content in which content is broken down into "bite size" chunks. These chunks can be reused, independently created and maintained, and pulled apart and stuck together like so many legos. All well and good, but how do you develop and storyboard for useful and reusable content?
