Learning Objects can be transferred pretty much readily between mainstream LMS / VLE providers via ADL SCORM and IMS Content Packaging standards, but there is no equivalent for whole courses. As LMS vendor offerings mature and organisations are more ready to move LMS providers a means for course interoperability is required – enter IMS Common Cartridge.
