CCLearn has prepared a useful guide on CC Licenses and Trademarks targeted towards organisations creating OER works but is of use to any organisation wanting to allow others to adapt, localise and remix their works whilst still retaining retain control of their intellectual property rights including copyright and also trademark(s)
The Creative Commons ccLearn program (http://learn.creativecommons.org) has published a guide: “CC Licenses and Trademarks: A Guide for Organizational OER Creators and Distributors” that is available below.
Although the guide is focussed on the OER community and intended for use by organisations “creating OER that wish to share their educational materials but are concerned about potential improper or undesirable association of their brand with low-quality adaptations” it is also a potentially useful guide and primer for any organisation and even government as illustrated in the OPSI blog post (via CCUnitedKingdom) where concern is raised over the protection of the “Royal Arms” and other non-trademark department logos.
