This course discusses the history of the Internet, difference between the Internet, intranets, and extranets, and the client/server model. It also explores the infrastructure required to support an Internet connection, use of common Internet protocols, and basic principles of the Domain Names System (DNS). Additionally, the course covers the tools, features, and techniques used for browsing the Internet. How is the course delivered?
The course is an online eLearning course with a difference. Whereas most eLearning courses come to an end when you have worked through the course materials the way this course is delivered means that you will have access to a Community of Practice (CoP) and become part of a community of learners. You will have access to the course materials via a Virtual Learning Environment (VLE).
The course is designed with the greatest flexibility in mind. When you break off from working through the course materials it is possible to pick it up at the same point on your next learning session as the VLE will log and retain the point where you left the course materials.
